The Maritime Republic of Eastport

Eastport view of Spa Creek While not a community association like the rest of the neighborhoods in this guide,  Eastport deserves special attention as it is boater's heaven. Eastport is a peninsula surrounded by water, just across a bridge from downtown Annapolis.  The end of nearly every street is a park with views of either Spa Creek, Back Creek or the Severn River and the Chesapeake Bay.   The water taxi can be hailed from nearly every waterfront location.  Chock full of marinas, yacht clubs, marine-related businesses, and a rich history dating back to the 1600s.  The unofficial "Maritime Republic of Eastport"  was created in 1998 in a pretend secession from the City of Annapolis and continues to battle for its independence in the Annual Tug-of-War.   Other fun activities include festivals, concerts, regattas, fishing tournaments, sock-burning parties, home and garden tours, a 1/2 mile marathon, and list goes on and on.   Shops, bars and restaurants are found all around the peninsula.   That and the short walk over Compromise Bridge to the center of Annapolis makes Eastport an extremely walkable community.‚Äč
